Terms of Service
The rules for using You in Town — plain English first, then the full legal version.
✋ The short version (what actually matters)
- Be decent and real. No harassment, spam, fake accounts, or bots.
- You own what you post — and you're responsible for it.
- I can remove accounts that break the rules or look fake or abusive.
- It's provided as-is — I can't promise it's always perfect or available.
The full terms are below — and the note just under here explains how this works.

A quick, honest note
You in Town is built and run by one person — me — and I put a lot of care into it. But I'm not a big company: I can't vet people or watch over what they do, so please look out for yourself and for one another. Be kind, trust your instincts, and if you do choose to meet someone, keep it public.
Because I'm simply the one making the introductions, I can't take responsibility for what happens between users, whether online or in person — but if anything ever feels off, email me at info@you-in-town.com and I'll help however I genuinely can. The formal terms are below, and they don't take away the rights you have under the law.
1. Acceptance of terms
By creating an account or using You in Town (the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
These terms apply to all users, including travellers, local guides, and visitors browsing without an account.
These Terms incorporate the Privacy Policy by reference. References to "the operator", "I", "me" or "my" mean Fernando Schwarz, the individual who operates the Platform.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Platform. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
You may not create an account on behalf of another person without their express authorisation.
If I become aware that someone under 18 has registered, I may remove the account immediately.
3. Accounts
3.1 Registration
New accounts are created using Apple or Google sign-in. You agree to provide accurate information when registering, and you are responsible for keeping your account and any linked sign-in credentials secure.
3.2 One account per person
You may hold only one active account. Creating duplicate or replacement accounts to evade a suspension is not permitted.
3.3 Account security
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you suspect unauthorised access, contact me immediately at info@you-in-town.com.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Platform to:
- Harass, threaten, or deceive other users;
- Post false, misleading, or defamatory content;
- Impersonate any person or entity;
- Send unsolicited messages or spam;
- Collect or scrape data from the Platform by automated means;
- Use the Platform for commercial advertising or lead generation;
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Platform or other users' accounts;
- Upload or share content that is illegal, offensive, or infringes third-party rights;
- Create an account using a false identity, impersonate a traveller or local, or misrepresent your identity, location, age, experience, qualifications, or intentions;
- Offer, solicit, arrange, advertise, or facilitate sexual services, escort services, prostitution, "sugaring" arrangements, or any sexually exploitative activity;
- Solicit money, gifts, cryptocurrency, financial transfers, or any other benefit through deception, fraud, impersonation, or misleading conduct;
- Offer or carry out guiding, tours, or other activities without holding any licence, permit, or registration required by local law, or in breach of local tourism, safety, or tax regulations.
5. User content
You retain ownership of any content you post on the Platform (profile information, photos, trip details, messages).
By posting content, you grant the operator a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, and display that content within the Platform, solely for the purpose of operating and providing the Platform to you and other users. This licence permits no other use, is not sub-licensable except to the service providers strictly necessary to run the Platform (such as hosting), and ends when you delete the content or your account (save for short-term backups pending deletion).
You are solely responsible for the content you post. The operator does not verify or endorse user content.
6. Interactions between users — assumption of risk
You in Town only introduces users to one another. It is not a party to, and does not arrange, supervise, control, or take responsibility for, any conversation, meeting, trip, accommodation, activity, transport, payment, or other arrangement that results from those introductions, whether online or in person.
The operator does not verify the identity, age, qualifications, trustworthiness, criminal history, licensing status, or legal authority of any user — including anyone offering to meet others or to provide local guidance — and does not vet, screen, endorse, or guarantee any user, profile, statement, or content. The operator makes no representation that use of the Platform is safe, suitable, lawful, or risk-free, and cannot guarantee the behaviour, identity, honesty, intentions, or conduct of any user. You are solely responsible for evaluating the people you choose to interact with.
You take part in any interaction or meeting entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator accepts no liability for the conduct of users, or for any harm, loss, injury, dispute, or cost arising from such interactions or meetings. Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under mandatory law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for gross negligence, or for fraud — nor your statutory rights as a consumer.
Please take the same care you would with any stranger: if you choose to meet in person, keep it public; tell someone you trust where you are going; avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information; and never feel pressured into any activity or payment. If something feels wrong, trust your instincts and disengage — and if you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
7. Tip payments
Guides may optionally display a payment link (such as PayPal.me) on their profile, and users may independently choose to exchange money or other consideration through PayPal or any other third-party method — for example bank transfer, Revolut, Wise, cash, or cryptocurrency. The operator does not process, facilitate, monitor, hold, transmit, or take part in any such transaction, provides no payment service, and takes no cut. The operator is not a party to these transactions and accepts no liability in connection with them.
8. Enforcement and termination
The operator may suspend, block, restrict, remove, or refuse to publish any account or content, at my discretion and — where legally permitted — without prior notice, for legal, safety, technical, or operational reasons or where I reasonably consider it necessary, including, without limitation, where an account: breaches these Terms; is fake, automated, a bot, a duplicate, or created to evade a previous block; is used for spam, fraud, harassment, or other abuse; or where action is needed to protect the Platform, its users, or its security. I am not liable to you for taking such action in these circumstances.
Where I restrict, suspend, or remove your account or content, I will give you the reason for it where I am required to do so by law (including under the Digital Services Act). If you believe the action was a mistake, email me at info@you-in-town.com and I'll review it.
You may delete your own account at any time via the Settings page. Upon deletion, your profile and the content associated with your account are deleted or anonymised in line with the Privacy Policy and any legal retention requirements.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. I do not guarantee that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or harm arising from user interactions.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, the operator's total aggregate liability to you is limited to the amount (if any) you have paid to use the Platform in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. The Platform is currently provided free of charge.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under mandatory applicable law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for intent or gross negligence — nor your statutory rights as a consumer (including under Austrian consumer protection law).
11. Indemnification
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and reasonable expenses arising out of or connected with your use of the Platform, the content you post, your conduct toward other users, or your breach of these Terms. This does not apply to liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory law.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Austria. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Austria, unless mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
13. Third-party services
The Platform relies on third-party services — including Apple and Google (sign-in), Fly.io (hosting), and PayPal (optional tips). Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. The operator is not responsible for third-party services or for their acts, omissions, availability, or content.
14. Reporting content and illegal material
If you come across content or behaviour on the Platform that is illegal, harmful, or breaches these Terms, please report it using the in-app reporting tools or by emailing info@you-in-town.com. I will acknowledge your report, review it without undue delay, take appropriate action on content that is illegal or breaches these Terms, and inform you of the outcome. The operator may investigate reports, restrict the visibility of content, remove content, suspend accounts, preserve evidence where legally required, and cooperate with competent authorities. This address is the point of contact for notices about allegedly illegal content under the Digital Services Act.
The Platform is not an emergency service and reports are not monitored in real time. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
15. Force majeure
The operator is not liable for any failure or delay in providing the Platform caused by events beyond reasonable control, including internet, hosting, or network outages, denial-of-service or other cyber-attacks, government or regulatory restrictions, infrastructure or third-party service failures, power failures, natural events, or other force majeure events.
16. General
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect, and the invalid provision will apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement between you and the operator regarding the Platform and supersede any prior understandings.
No waiver. If the operator does not enforce a right or provision, that is not a waiver of it.
Independent users. Users are independent and connect with one another at their own initiative. Nothing in the Platform or these Terms creates any employment, agency, partnership, contractor, or joint-venture relationship between the operator and any user, or between users.
Assignment. You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms. The operator may transfer them — for example, if the Platform is taken over by another operator — provided your rights under these Terms are not reduced.
Survival. Provisions that by their nature should continue after your account is closed — including the content licence, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law — survive termination.
Language. These Terms are written in English; any translation is for convenience only, and the English version prevails.
17. Changes to these terms
I may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via a notice on the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
