Who is "You in Town?"
The person behind the app — and why it exists.
Hello there! 👋
I'm the creator and developer of You in Town — and, for now, pretty much the whole team. I built it around a simple idea and a genuine wish to change the way people experience new places.
I travel a lot for work. Most of the time I'm busy and short on free time, but every so often I get that one day off — and I love spending it exploring whatever city I happen to be in. The trouble is, I always hit the same wall: what does this place actually offer? So I disappear down a rabbit hole of YouTube videos, reviews and endless "things to do in…" pages, and before I know it half the day is gone.
What I really want is far simpler: someone who's already been there. Someone who can tell me where to go, which restaurant is genuinely good, and where you're treated like a guest rather than a tourist. And that's the catch — what do you do when you don't know a single soul in town? How do you find a person who's happy to show you around and let you in on a few local secrets?
I started teaching myself to code in 2020 and have been chasing that path ever since. I completed Harvard's CS50x course, and I'm currently finishing their CS50 Cybersecurity course. So one day I just thought: start building something, and see where it goes. I opened my laptop and began. Hours turned into days, days into weeks, weeks into months — and I simply couldn't stop. Recently, You in Town was finally ready to meet the world.
It's still very early, and honestly I need people like you to make it work. But I'm a huge believer in trust and transparency. I genuinely think most people are good — and this whole app is built on exactly that belief: on people who love their home town and want to share a little of its magic with someone just passing through.
Thanks for being here. Maybe I'll see you in town.
